Terry Stafford "Amarillo By Morning"

Most Country Music fans like the song "Amarillo By Morning" by George Strait. Most have no idea that it is actually a cover of a 1973 song by Terry Stafford. Terry Stafford was a pop singer in the 60's with a big hit called "Suspicion". He turned to Country Music by the 70's and recorded a great album for Atlantic called "Say, Has Anybody Seen My Sweet Gypsy Rose" that spawned three Country Top 40 Hits in 1973 and 1974. "Amarillo By Morning" was originally the b-side of the 45 for the title cut of this album, which was released as a single to radio and jukeboxes. The b-side got more play and became a minor hit, reaching #31, and a cult favorite. Ten years later George Strait took it to #4, his sixth chart single. Terry Stafford also wrote the Buck Owens hit "Big In Vegas". He passed away in 1996. If you want to hear Terry Stafford's unique brand of country music, tune into the Hoss.

My wife had an 8 track made for me in 75 with the original. I still listen - yes I have a working 8 track. I have copied to cassette but the quality is not good. Reply to this

I've listened to it on an old muffled second generation cassette for years. I think it'd sound odd on a CD! Reply to this
